about the theatre
![Picture](/uploads/5/3/5/3/53533015/503452391.jpg?500)
The Globe Theatre was built by the Lord Chamberlain's Men in 1599 using materials from an older theatre. During a showing of Henry VIII on June 29, 1613, the theatre went down in flames. It was quickly rebuilt in 1614 and closed down in 1642 by the Puritans. Two years later, the Globe Theatre was demolished and replaced with housing buildings. The theatre, renamed as the Shakespeare Globe, was reconstructed and reopened in 1997. In January of 2014, an indoor theatre opened inside the Shakespeare Globe, called the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England in 1564. He married 26-year-old Anne Hathaway at age 18 and had three kids--Suzanna, Hamnet, and Judith. At age 21, he joined a group called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later renamed the King’s Men, as a successful actor, writer, and co-owner of the company. Shakespeare was quite famous for his writings by 1598, although some of his plays were published after his death, such as the reputable piece of work titled “Macbeth”.Although he lived and wrote a long time ago, his stories are still read and well-known to this very day. His most famous works include Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Henry IV, Julius Caesar, King John, and The Tempest.
